Vitamin D – A Brief Introduction

Vitamin D belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins. The two important forms of Vitamin D are vitamin D2 or ergocalciferol – the plant source of vitamin D – and vitamin D3 also reffered as cholecalciferol. Vitamin D3 is produced in the skin when the skin is exposed to the sun – when the light energy is absorbed by it. If an individual is exposed adequately to sunlight there is no further need for Vitamin D in the form of supplements. Natural food sources might not typically have the sufficient amount of Vitamin D and so a conscious consumption of Vitamin D rich foods and deliberate exposure of the skin to sunlight is required to prevent possible deficiencies.

Some of the benefits of Vitamin D are:

- Whether Vitamin D is acquired from the sunlight or from the food sources, sufficient supply of Vitamin D is essential to maintain strong and healthy bones and joints since vitamin D helps retain and absorb calcium. It’s been proven that people who ensure a sufficient and regular intake of Vitamin D are less likely to develop osteoporosis and joint pains.

- It is found to be highly beneficial in slowing down and lessening the effects of arthritis and reducing backache.

- Research conducted towards the advantages of Vitamin D has shown that it can be helpful in preventing certain types of cancers.

Apart from the regulated exposure to sunlight, other sources that can provide a good amount of vitamin D are herring, mackerel, salmon, oysters, cottage cheese, egg yolk, fortified soy beverages, etc. Vitamins A, C and E protect the vitamin D.

Can I Take Flax Seed and Fish Oil Taken Together?

With a rise in the sedentary lifestyle, an increasing number of people are

suffering from the problem of high cholesterol. This is possibly one of the main

reasons why a lot of people prefer to take additional supplements to maintain

their health.

People are slowly realizing the benefits of fish seed oil and flax seed oil.

Though people know the fact that consuming these supplements can prove

beneficial for their health, people are often flummoxed regarding the fact

whether these both supplements can be consumed together or not.

It is very important for a layman to first understand what purpose the two supplements serve before including them as a part of their daily diet. Actually, both of the oil supplements are extremely rich in omega 3 fatty acids and almost serve the same purpose. Moreover, the consumption of these supplements is considered extremely important as the fatty acids provided by them are not produced in the body.

Thus, an individual needs to fulfill their requirement by consuming them from external edible sources. Since both the supplements provide our body with same nutritional elements, there are several vegetarians who prefer flax seed oil over fish oil so as to completely eliminate any traces or smell of fish from their nutritional supplements. But it is not feasible everywhere as the flax seed oil cannot be produced and processed everywhere depending upon different circumstances.

Several people find it hard to digest flax oil supplements as it requires the

body to convert the element named ALA into DHA before it can be finally absorbed

by the body. Also, this conversion uses up a lot of body heat and energy in the

process. Therefore, consumption of flax seed oil is never advised for people who

are sick, old and who do not have too much of energy to spare. They prefer

sticking with fish oil supplements as the fatty acids present in it are already

in their crude form and can be easily absorbed by the body.

Though a person may choose either of the two but still enough precautions must

be taken to ensure that these omega 3 fatty acids which are generally available

in capsule and gel form are of the highest quality and of pharmaceutical grade.

Also, it is advisable to consult a physician or family doctor before including

these supplements in the daily diet.

Several doctors and researchers are of the view that fish seed oil is better

than flax seed oil as it contains the same elements i.e. EPA and DHA which can

also be found in the human brain. Therefore, an individual can choose either of

the two for consumption as a dietary supplement as both of them will serve the

same purpose and provide the body with same nutritional elements.

Though several people prefer fish seed oil as it is the crudest and popular

source of omega 3 fatty acids, flax seed oil remains popular with strict

vegetarians and vegans who do not want to consume fish in any form.

Testosterone Injections

Testosterone injections are the most widely practiced and cost effective means of testosterone therapy. These injections are carried out in persons suffering from low circulating testosterone levels. Testosterone injections are safe and effective, and they produce immediate results. They enhance metabolic and mental activities in men. Testosterone injections are widely resorted to by hypogonadal men. These injections are to be administrated once in every two to three weeks.

Testosterone injections are intramuscular injections, in which the hormone is injected directly into the muscle so that it is directly absorbed into the blood stream. The quantity of testosterone to be injected depends on the person?s health conditions and testosterone levels in blood. An intramuscular injection of 200 to 300 mg is usually sufficient to make body testosterone levels to normal.

Testosterone is esterified first to inhibit degradation and to make it soluble in oil-based injection vehicles. The common esterified compounds used for injection are testosterone cypionate and testosterone enanthate. This esterified compound is then injected into the body. Testosterone injections are generally given by a healthcare professional in a hospital or clinic setting.

Before taking a testosterone injection, tell your doctor about all other medicines, nutritional supplements and herbal products you are taking. If you are diabetic, these injections can affect your blood sugar levels. These injections and esterified compounds are available at medicine stores, and often require prescription from doctors. The cost of these medicines is roughly around $10 for a 10 cc vial, which is sufficient for fifteen weeks.

The benefits of testosterone injections include muscle and strength improvement, body hair and skin thickening, improvement in sexual desire, and decreased irritability and depression. Testosterone injections are also recommended for persons having mild/moderate heart diseases as they improve blood flow to the heart during exercise. Testosterone enhances the dilation of coronary arteries, arteries providing blood to heart muscles, thus increasing blood flow and decreasing blood pressure.

Immediately after every testosterone injection, blood testosterone level can go much higher than natural levels. After 4 or 5 days it tends to drop. Disadvantages of testosterone injections include pain in injection field, complexes due to inconvenient scheduling, adverse changes in blood lipids, and itching and irritation

The Health Benefits of Bilberry

Bilberry is made from a little blue berry that is related to blueberries and cranberries. Bilberry is a powerful anti-inflammatory. The herb is also a powerful antioxidant and has glucoquinine (lowers blood sugar levels). Bilberry contains flavonoids called anthocyanosides that protect the collagen structures in the blood vessels of the eye. Bilberry is used to treat eye problems such as Macular Degeneration, diabetic neuropathy, and/or cataracts.

Benefits of Bilberry

Bilberry is found mostly in dark skinned fruits. It is used to treat diarrhea, vericose veins, and mucous membrane inflammation. The herb is beneficial in the treatment of hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and in eye health.

This herb may also help night vision. During World War II, British Pilots ate bilberry jam before going out on night flights. They claimed it improved their vision. It is believed that the bilberry herb helps the eyes to adjust to changes in light quickly. This is one of the greatest benefits of bilberry and can be very beneficial for ones eyes according to many studies.

In Europe it is used to treat venous insufficiency- a condition that causes swelling and varicose veins. It further relieves pain and itching, and it also. Helps combat skin ulcers on the legs. Reynaud’s disease may benefit from bilberry. Reynauds causes pain and numbness in the outer extremities (fingers, toes and nose) when cold.

Bilberry improves circulation and makes artery walls. The herb may reduce inflammation, ease gastro-intestinal problems, and gum problems that have been linked to heart disease. Diarrhea and mouth sores can benefit from Bilberry as well. Bilberry has strong antiseptic properties, relieves peptic ulcers, diabetes, fibrocystic diseases, and painful menstruation.

Our conclusion For The Benefits Of Bilberry

Because of Bilberry’s strong antioxidant composition, the herb makes an excellent free radical scavenger, which helps combat the cell damage that leads to premature aging and disease. The most noted benefit that we briefly discussed above, is its ability to treat a range of problems relating to ones eye health. For example, the herb protects collagen structures in the blood vessels of the eyes, thus promoting healthy capillaries that carry many vital nutrients, such as oxygen-rich blood to your eye muscles.

Various Studies have confirmed that the benefits of bilberry go even further than one might be aware of. The herb can be useful for protecting against macular degeneration, cataracts, night blindness, and poor or fading vision. We believe bilberry to be one of the best herbs available for the protection of ones eyes health. Clinical studies have even shown that if given orally to healthy people, it improves visual accuracy. Our conclusion is that everyone should consider consuming bilberry as it helps as part of an overall maintenance of ones health.

Other benefits of bilberry include treating menstrual cramps and helping aid stomach ulcers. Varicose veins, thrombosis, angina, and poor circulation may also be improved with the use of bilberry, as the herb helps with healthy blood flow.

Our last point to note is that bilberry contains a substance called glucoquinine, which has the ability to lower ones blood sugar levels significantly and its antioxidant, anthocyanin, within the herb itself, can reduce high blood pressure.

Possible Precautions for those considering using Bilberry

Some side effects related to the use of Bilberry, include the possibility of: stomach upset, dizziness, or headache. It could cause diarrhea, and thin out blood. Caution should be used as bilberry could interfere with medications. However, there are no known adverse interactions with prescription drugs, or have there been any harmful effects noted in the literature for this herb to the best of our knowledge. As always, though, use your common sense when taking nutritional supplements: if you notice any unwanted side effects, discontinue usage, or reduce your dosage level straight away. Remember to always consult with a qualified physician before beginning supplementation of any kind.

Pregnant or nursing women should always refrain from supplementation with nutritional products until they speak with their personal doctor.

Our opinion on the Bilberry Herb

The evidence for bilberry’s benefits as a herb are long, varied, and shown in many clinical trails when it comes to treating eye disorders and maintaining clear vision in healthy individuals. However, many of the recent beneficial discoveries need further study in our opinions to validate the benefits further. Among these new findings are bilberry’s benefits for menstrual cramps and helping treat stomach ulcers.

Because of the many benefits of bilberry, along with more or less unknown adverse side effects, we would say it is a supplement well worth checking out especially since there is a lack of side effects of bilberry — unlike many other herbs on the market.

Tips On Getting The Best Benefits Of Bilberry

1. Make sure you purchase a bilberry supplement produced with a standardized extract. Standardized extracts contain the highest level of therapeutic benefits within the herbs. Most other herbal supplements on the market, however, do not even contain the amount of ingredients stated on the label. This is worrying within the nutritional industry and consumers need to take this issue seriously.

2. Dosages range from 20 to 160 mg. However, people who are in good overall health should take lower dosage levels, but maintain long term use. However, those people with specific conditions, such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, etc mentioned above in our article, may wish to supplement with dosage levels in the higher ranges, but do not go over what we have stated above.

What is L- Arginine?

L-Arginine is a non essential amino acid and is necessary for normal functioning of the pituitary gland.

The production of L-Arginine decreases with age and many experts believe this is responsible for many degenerative processes that are related to aging.

Research shows it plays role in maintaining wellbeing and particularly male sexual health.

Why it is so important

In 1988 researchers discovered that L-arginine’s wide-ranging health benefits were due primarily to its role as a precursor to nitric oxide.

L-arginine stimulates the release of nitric oxide from the walls of blood vessels, improving circulation.

L-arginine is a particularly important amino acid for overall circulatory health and is sold as natural supplement for sexual health.

L-arginine has been proven to help increase blood flow to the penis, much like Viagra does, and the difference is it does it naturally.

How an erection occurs.

Nitric oxide is produced in response to messages from the brain; which triggers the release of nitric acid, which causes the smooth muscles of the spongy tissues inside the penis to relax, the tissue then fills with blood and an erection occurs.

L-arginine is so effective because it helps with the release of nitric oxide. Low levels of L-Arginine can lead therefore to decreased libido.

Medical proof

A study published in 1994 showed an 80% improvement in the erectile function of men given 2.8 grams of argentine a day after a two weeks period

Testosterone Side Effects

Testosterone is an androgenic hormone produced chiefly by the testes. It is responsible for the growth of secondary sex characteristics in men. A small amount of testosterone is present in the body of women also. The deficiency or excessive amounts of this hormone causes many side effects in the human body. Many debates have been conducted among scientists and healthcare professionals on the side effects of testosterone.

Almost all unwanted side effects of testosterone are caused the androgenic properties of the hormone. The usage of synthetic testosterone helps people with HIV-related wasting gain weight.

A man with testosterone deficiency experiences decreased sex drive, moodiness, and fatigue. Testicular function deceases with age. This phenomenon is usually found in men after the age of thirty. The supplementation of the hormone sometimes tends to slow down the body?s natural ability to produce testosterone. This is the major side effect found in men.

Vomiting, nausea, swelling of the arms and legs, yellowing of the skin and eyes, and prolonged and painful erections are the early signs of serious side effects. Using excess amount of artificial testosterone causes serious allergic reactions such difficulty in breathing, swelling of the tongue, lips, or face. In women, hoarseness, male-pattern baldness, deepening of voice, excessive hair growth, and menstrual irregularities are the main side effects. Prolonged use of testosterone in higher doses may result in shrinking of testicles, gynecomastia (breast growth in men), decreased or increased sex drive, and a number of less serious side effects such as acne, decreased sperm production in men, clitoral enlargement, male pattern baldness, and water retention. Liver damage and cancer are the other serious side effects caused by testosterone.
